Over the years, Bobby expanded and strengthened the family business. He raised registered Salers cattle and built a successful farming operation, producing nearly 100,000 small hay bales annually, which were sold throughout Santa Fe and northern New Mexico. He also leased additional land to operate a yearling cattle program.
In 1980, Bobby had the opportunity to purchase a ranch east of Las Vegas, further growing the family’s footprint. As the operation continued to thrive, he expanded into southern Colorado, purchasing a farm with five irrigated pivots. During the early 2000s, the next generation became actively involved in developing that farm, helping install miles of underground irrigation pipeline to improve efficiency and sustainability.
After years of successful farming and ranching in both southern Colorado and northern New Mexico, Bobby was presented with another incredible opportunity—to purchase the historic Phoenix Ranch in 2006 from Mercy Moore. Phoenix Ranch is an iconic property with deep roots in New Mexico history. The Moore family had been only the second family to own the ranch, following its original owner, Sam Watrous. With this purchase, the Quintana family became just the third family to carry on the ranch’s legacy.
Following the acquisition of Phoenix Ranch, Bobby made extensive improvements, including major underground irrigation projects focused on water conservation, along with many other enhancements to the property.
In 2013, Bobby sold the southern Colorado farm. When it was originally purchased in 2001, the farm had five irrigated pivots; by the time it was sold, it had grown to an impressive 27 pivots. Following that sale, he continued expanding in northern New Mexico, eventually building a ranching operation totaling more than 70,000 acres.
On January 10, 2021—the day before his 64th birthday—Bobby passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy of hard work, vision, and dedication.
Today, that legacy continues with the third generation. After Bobby’s passing, I took over the family operation and have remained committed to growing and strengthening what previous generations built. Since then, I have acquired additional ranches and expanded the Phoenix Ranch name through several new subsidiaries, ensuring that our family’s ranching tradition continues for generations to come.

We proudly supply locally raised USDA-certified Angus beef to New Mexico schools, helping provide students with high-quality, locally sourced beef while supporting our state's agricultural community.
